Inditex announces that Zara will begin online sales in autumn-winter 2010-11.
The Inditex group has just published its results for the first six months of 2009 and used the occasion to announce the opening of its Zara shop online.
The e-shop will start operating in the autumn-winter 2010/2011 campaign and will first be launched in Spain, France, Germany, the UK, Italy and Portugal, before being introduced into Zara’s other markets.
http://www.zarahome.com, which specialises in clothing and home decoration, was the pilot for this Inditex e-commerce venture. Launched in October 2007 with versions for 14 different countries, it sells the same products at the same prices as in its physical shops.
Inditex sales grew to €4.861 bn. in the first six months of 2009, up 7% on the same period in 2008. The group has 4,430 shops in 73 countries and international shop sales account for 63% of the total. Asia continues to be one of the key areas for its global growth strategy.
Brand consultant Interbrand places Zara in 50th position on the league table of the world’s most valuable brands.
